Golden Roses, Carnations by Marilyn Wells
Oil and cold wax on wood panel, 20" x 24"
Inspired by the artist’s haiku:
roses, carnations…
full open and round, like me,
though it is winter
— mw, 2604OCW
Golden Roses, Carnations glows with layered gold, ochre, and warm earth tones, holding both floral imagery and a quiet figure within a luminous, symbolic space. Roses, carnations, crescent moons, star forms, and veiled circular passages gather into an image of ripeness, memory, and inner radiance.
This painting belongs to a new body of oil and cold wax work exploring Origin, center, and the transparent, diaphanous qualities of being. Through layered light, circular forms, stars, moons, flowers, and veiled figures, I am seeking to suggest the presence of something larger than the individual self — a luminous wholeness whose center is everywhere.
The painting suggests a winter blossoming — a fullness that remains alive even in a season of darkness or rest. Through oil and cold wax, layered surfaces, and translucent passages of light, the work reflects my ongoing interest in emergence, feminine presence, and the way beauty continues to open within the heart and imagination.
